Job Applications
All persons who wish to be considered for employment at the Lyon Township Public Library must fill out an Employee Application. Applications are available at the link below, and should be emailed to hteasdle@lyon.lib.mi.us. Applications may be filled out for future consideration if we do not have a current job posting.
All applications will held for consideration for one year after filing. If potential employees would like to update the applications held on file they may do so at anytime.
You must be at least 16 years of age to be considered for a page position and at least 18 years of age to be considered for a clerk position at the Lyon Township Public Library.

Volunteering at the Library
The Lyon Township Public Library recognizes the need for, and welcomes, community volunteers. We appreciate your interest in helping the library! Volunteers are individuals who give their time and talents to the Library without compensation. The Library Director shall have the authority to approve the use of volunteers.
Volunteer work at LTPL is on an as needed or project basis at the discretion of the library staff. These chores vary and could possibly be assigned during your volunteer shift. There is no guarantee of a particular job or task during your shift.
To be considered and notified of volunteer opportunities, please complete the appropriate form below for adults or teens.
Adult Volunteers
Be part of something exciting and make a difference by volunteering your time with the Friends of Lyon Township Public Library!
In past years, the Friends have supported many library endeavors including fundraising via book sales and helping with library maintenance and projects.
Fundraising money has been used to purchase a flat screen TV for our library marketing display, help put on Family Fun Day, contribute for the Neighborhood Library Association’s author visit, purchase magazine subscriptions for the library, and much more!
Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with Library Book Sales
- Garden/snow/lawn clean-up and maintenance
- Cleaning of both staff and public areas
- Arranging books and sorting
- Finding/tracking items
- Washing dishes and other items
- Moving and lifting boxes of materials, furniture and other items as necessary
- Assisting with copying and other administrative tasks
- Recycle and trash removal
Volunteers who join the Friends of the Library will be notified by email of volunteer opportunities, including book sales and special projects.
Volunteers will be accepted without regard to any individual’s age, race, creed, color, national origin, religion, disability, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, gender, physical appearance, socioeconomic level, education level or any other legally protected characteristic.
Volunteers will work under the direction of the Library Director or staff person designated by the Library Director and will follow all Library policies and standards, including the policies and laws regarding privacy of Library records. Training and information will be provided for the assigned tasks.
Volunteers may not perform activities that could reveal confidential patron information or use the Integrated Library System (ILS)
Volunteers can be released from volunteer duties at any time at the discretion of the Library Director.
Teen Volunteers
The library occasionally has opportunities for teen volunteers. Volunteer opportunities will be available on Monday and Thursday afternoons and evenings. Volunteer shifts generally last 2 hours.
Volunteers may help us:
- Assist staff in setting up, cleaning up, and during programs
- Prepare craft materials
- Prepare Take-and-Make kits
- Prepare summer reading prize bags
- Shelf maintenance projects (straightening shelves, alphabetizing carts, pulling books from printed lists, etc.)
- Cleaning up around the library (wiping down surfaces, washing paintbrushes after craft programs, etc.)
Volunteers under the age of 18 must have parental approval and cannot work more than two (2) hours per day. Generally, the Library will not accept volunteers under the age of 14.
